MODERN-DAY SLAVERY IN GRENADA

Image
My Brothers and sisters, our Ancestors are rolling over in their graves to see what we have become today. They died and suffered so that we could be free and here we are once again in a state of servitude.  Just as in the days of our ancestor, the wealthy came and gave money to a few of our brothers, who they know were willing to sell us out because they were given a price. Just like our ancestor we were sold twice. Sold by our fellow man and then sold into servitude. It seems as though history has repeated itself and we did not learn that those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it, so here we are again.  We danced and feted while the rich gave millions to buy our vote/election, so that their agenda can be furthered. We fell for the trick, 'parties and freeness'. We were exactly what the rich thought we were and we revealed in it. They invested in our laziness, our forgetfulness, our ignorance, our desperation, our impatience and our Judas...

The NNP and Keith Mitchell Killing Statutory Bodies In Grenada.

Statutory Bodies in Organisational Trauma Since the return of the NNP to office, Statutory Bodies have had a rough ride with almost every entity in a state of malaise and a plethora of horror stories, some of which are not yet in the public domain 1. Grenada Postal Corporation Long time manager Leo Roberts was “retired” after an ugly and poorly managed transition to Phillip Gittens who once worked as an accountant in the Corporation. All of this took place under the watch of Shawn Charles, an employee of Grenlec who is said to be an aspiring contender to replace Dr. Claris Modeste Curwen as NNP candidate for St Mark. For some time, the corporation has been in decline with significant financial losses reported yearly. Attempts by the Chairman to micro manage only served to demoralise staff and management alike. It has been downhill for Gittens since then and he was eventually sent on leave”in the first instance” a few months ago. It is not known if he still receives his sa...

The Stench of Political Opportunism hangs over St George’s

Image
When Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell addressed the nation last week, his PR handlers sought to give the nation the impression that it would be a speech sin precedent, game changing maybe! The reality is that the occasion was used to sell the nation a menu of changes in his government, some of which the nation is still trying to digest. During my nomadic exploits, I wrote a piece under the theme “Astute political Move or Naked Opportunism, Peter David’s Defection to the NNP”. I referred to the fact that Basdeo Panday once said that politics has its own “moral bearings” That was in june2014. Since then David and Humphrey have been busily engaged in a spirited campaign to ingratiate them to the rank and file of the NNP. Moreover, CARIBUPDATE newspaper has been on a consistent basis, defending the NNP administration and trying to bring the NDC into disrepute by suggesting that division is still the main feature of the existence of the party. It was widely expected that Pete...

Will Chester Humphrey be a fair Arbiter in the Grenada Senate?

Image
The surprise announcement of Chester Humphrey as an NNP Senator raised many eyebrows after more than fifteen years of vociferous opposition to that party. Many rank and file supporters listened in shock and amazement when Prime Minister Mitchell made the announcement last Thursday in a national address. Humphrey along with Peter David and others were expelled from the then ruling NDC in 2012. This expulsion was a major blow to Humphrey who is known for his egotistic and self centred character. Since then he has teamed up with David, Hamlet Mark and others to publish Caribupdate newspaper. This newspaper has been the main mouthpiece of the Humphrey inspired Project Grenada. Along with other expellees from the NDC and some ex-revolutionaries, this splinter group has formed an unofficial alliance with the NNP in the run up to the last general elections. Humphrey has expressed openly his deep dislike for Sen. Nazim Burke, the recently elected leader of the National Democratic Congres...

Peter David and Joe Gilbert

NNP Executive Gives Green light to Peter David and Joe Gilbert For NNP insiders, this is stale news, for us the people, it is as fresh as it gets. Ever since that fateful day that Mr. Peter David counted himself into the NNP house in Paraclete, the old guard has been uneasy with the Prime Minister’s extramarital affair with the Pedro group. Dr Mitchell by his own words slotted in Mr David at the leadership level of the party. His description of the role that Pedro will play sits firmly in the lap of the current General Secretary of the NNP, Mr Roland Bhola. Dissident NNP insiders are genuinely afraid of this group who came into the party as a bloc and not as individuals searching for a political home after they were expelled in 2012 from the NDC. Dr Mitchell made a spirited plea in defence of a proposed invitation of David and Gilbert to take part in executive meetings.  He went further to indicate that mem...
